About St John's Community Centre
part of St John's Church, Ravenhead, St Helens

An inter Church survey held in 1991 highlighted a number of social concerns in the Ravenhead/Thatto Heath area.

Particular concerns raised included the fear of crime and vandalism, and a lack of decent indoor space for:
  • Young children, play groups etc
  • Parents and guardians
  • Rooms for community activities
  • For the elderly to enjoy company
  • For community information
  • Rooms for social events
As a result the Church felt it needed to be more relevant within the community in all aspects of life; to reach out open-handedly to the community at large and be more involved in the community by providing some of the facilities and activities that the local community need.

It was felt that by doing this we could show God's love for His people through the work that the centre would do. The money was raised and the centre opened in January 2004. Now St John's continues to develop new activities and services and welcomes suggestions and ideas from the community.

St John's Centre is striving to provide more of the facilities and activities that the community can use and enjoy.
