St. Johns Centre

An inter church survey held in 1991 highlighted a number of social concerns in the Ravenhead/Thatto Heath area.

Particular concerns raised included the fear of crime and vandalism, and a lack of decent indoor space for:

As a result the church felt it needed to be more relevant within the community in all aspects of life; to reach out open-handedly to the community at large and be more involved in the community by providing some of the facilities and activities that the local community need.

It was felt that by doing this we could show God's love for His people through the work that the centre would do. The money was raised and the centre opened in January 2004.

The centre is managed by a team made up of representatives from the Church, Police, Age Concern, the Health Authority and the local community who meet on a bi-monthly basis.

St. Johns is always looking to develop new activities and services and welcomes suggestions and ideas from the community.

St. Johns Centre is striving to provide more of the facilities and activities that the community can use and enjoy. To this end we have been appointed as caterers to the Taylor Park Cafe which opened in late Summer 2006.

The cafe provides much needed refreshments for the people using the park and a place for people to meet and relax over a cup of coffee or maybe a cream tea. Also available is an outside dining area for people using the cafe and to offer a range of light refreshments to suit all tastes.
