Our History, 1869 - Present
St John's Church, Ravenhead, St Helens

From its opening on St John the Evangelist's Day, 27th December 1869, St John's Church has sought to bring the Gospel to its parish through a number of ways.

Those in attendance on what is said to have been a bitterly cold winter's morning just before New Year 1870 by all accounts were unfortunate enough to experience a delayed start while church officials hunted for a missing key to enable them to turn the heating on. They however witnessed a piece of local history, as the new church of St John the Evangelist was consecrated and commissioned.

Since, a Memorial Hall has been built; the church mission 'Emmanuel' (previously Close House and the Campbell Rooms) was developed from early days as a Vicarage and Sunday School before closing permanently in 2018, and more recently, the St John's Centre opened its doors to the community we seek to serve.

A more detailed history section will be restored to this website as soon as possible.
