The parish of Ravenhead is situated in the town of St. Helens in the north-west of England.

In the parish are numerous housing estates, businesses and leisure facilities with varied needs, which St. Johns & Emmanuel aim to meet through the services offered by church and centre.

The areas covered by the parish boundary include areas of Ravenhead, Thatto Heath and Sutton Heath.

The outline of our parish boundary and the locations of our churches within it can be seen on our location page.

The following information is taken from a historical account of
St. Johns Church, the full text of which can be read by clicking here.

"The religious census of 1851 showed that there had been growth in some parts of the districts but little had been done in the Ravenhead and Thatto Heath districts, Nutgrove Wesleyan Methodist Chapel being the one exception.

Up to this time it needed an Act of Parliament to begin a new parish, but that state made that easier by changing the law so that all that was needed was an Order in Council. So on 19th August 1870, that parish of Ravenhead St. Johns was set up, taking over parts St Marys, St. Helens and St Thomas', Eccleston."
