Our Church History... Can You Help?

From it's opening on St. Johns the Evangelist's Day, the 27th December 1869, St. Johns Church has sought to bring the Gospel to its parish through a number of ways.

Those in attendance on that winter's morning just before New Year 1870 by all accounts were unfortunate enough to find a late start and that the heating had not been turned on. They however witnessed a piece of local history, as the new church of Ravenhead St. John was consecrated and comissioned.

Since, a Memorial Hall has been built; the church mission 'Emmanuel' was developed from early days as a Vicarage and Sunday School, and more recently, the St. Johns Centre opened its doors to the community we seek to serve.

The picture to the right of this page was painted in 1920 by
A. P. Tankard and shows a portrait of the front of St. Johns Church, before the installation of the memorial screen. Closer inspection of the painting, however, shows a faint pencil outline of the screen. The painting itself hangs in the Vestry at St. Johns.
