Heritage Open Days 2016
St John's Church, Crossley Road, Ravenhead, St Helens, WA10 3ND
11:00am - 3:00pm, Saturday 10 September 2016

Free Entry, No Booking Required

St John's Church will be open for viewing as part of the National Trust's Heritage Open Days initiative this year for the first time. Please bring your friends and family to look around. Self-guided tours and children's activity trial available.

You'll be guided around the Church using our 'Self-Guided Tour' booklet (but don't worry - there'll be people around to ask questions of) which will take you to historical and interesting areas of the building and give you an insight into their meanings and history.

Children, meanwhile, will be delighted by the 'Children's Tour' we're planning which will give them activities to take part in as they make their way around the building with their very own tour booklet to accompany them. There'll be live music at certain times throughout the day played on our pipe organ, an instrument that dates back to 1904. We'll also be playing some recorded choirs singing hymns to add to the atmosphere and there'll be times of silence to appreciate the stillness of this inspiring building.

Don't forget to sign our visitors' book as you make your way around the tour, which will show you how the building has developed over the years, tell you the story of a local Boer War hero and give you chance to pause and remember at our First World War memorial.

There'll be historical photographs to view on our big screen slideshow and a chance to read the full story by buying our award winning Church history book to accompany your tour booklet - and, optionally, have it signed by the author.
